Sonny’s Story: How Equimats Helped a Horse Find Comfort and Mobility Again

This past winter, we saw firsthand how much a quality barn floor can impact a horse’s well-being. Sonny, one of our beloved horses at Dreamcatcher Meadows Farm in Pemberton, BC, was struggling with severe foot issues that drastically limited his movement. He refused to walk more than absolutely necessary—avoiding even the simple act of strolling to get his food or water. Watching him so cautious and uncomfortable was truly heartbreaking.

Determined to help him, we decided to install our Equimats inside Sonny’s in-out shelter. From the moment he stepped onto those mats, we saw a real change. The therapeutic design of our mats provided the perfect support for his feet and legs, cushioning every step and easing his pain. Over the next few days, Sonny’s mobility improved significantly. He was able to stand, walk, and move around more comfortably—and his personality started to shine through again. He became more lively and relaxed, a true testament to what the right flooring can do.

What makes our horse stall mats so special is how supportive they are. They’re made with a springy EVA rubber mix that absorbs shock and relieves the stress of the heavy weight animals place on their legs. As you can see in the image below, Sonny actually prefers to stand on Equimats wherever he goes—so much so that he’ll even choose to stand on Equimats over Earth! That’s a clear sign of how much he appreciates the comfort and support they provide.

Sonny’s story is a perfect example of how the right barn flooring can dramatically improve a horse’s quality of life. We’re proud to see how our Equimats help horses like Sonny feel better, move more freely, and fully enjoy their everyday lives.

If you’re in Canada and looking for a durable, supportive, and health-promoting flooring solution for your barn, we wholeheartedly recommend giving Equimats a try. Because when it comes to the health and happiness of your horses, the ground they stand on really does matter.
